The Honourable Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development, Barr. David Sule Moyi, has appealed to traditional leaders to exercise prudence and due diligence when endorsing land sale agreements and change of ownership forms within their domains. His advisory comes in response to growing concerns raised by landowners who have approached the ministry with complaints over disputed transactions.
In a thoughtful address, Barr. Moyi highlighted that approximately 75% of court cases in the state are related to land disputes. Recognizing the importance of harmony and stability within communities, he emphasized the need for careful verification of rightful ownership before any land transactions are finalized.
“To foster peaceful coexistence among our people, it is essential that all parties involved in land dealings act with the utmost caution and integrity,” the Commissioner remarked.
He appealed to the ministry’s staff to adhere strictly to established procedures in the issuance of Rights of Occupancy (R of O) and Certificates of Occupancy (C of O), ensuring transparency and fairness in all processes.
Barr. Moyi’s guidance underscores the government’s commitment to reducing conflicts and promoting orderly land administration for the benefit of all citizens.
